Wild Bhutanese Cordyceps sinensis (locally known as Yartsa Goenbub, meaning "summer grass, winter worm") is a rare, high-altitude entomopathogenic fungus naturally harvested above 4,000 meters in the pristine alpine pastures of the Bhutanese Himalayas. Regulated strictly under royal conservation guidelines to ensure sustainable harvesting and exceptional purity, it is globally prized for its dense concentration of bioactive compounds, including cordycepin and adenosine. It has hard, fan-shaped cap with a shiny, varnished finish ranging from deep reddish-brown to orange-gold. Grows primarily on decaying hardwood tress in temperate and subtropical forest zones. It is unpalatable and tough when raw, it is harvested, dried and prepared as hot tea, tonics or dietary extracts rather than eaten as food.
